The ancient way of sending a request for help has helped people in our digital time

Tourists found a bottle in the river asking for help, and informed local authorities about it. So the life of a family was saved. In the morning, the family went to the waterfall, in order to get to it, it is necessary to go through the canyon. The plan was to get to the waterfall, climb down the rocks and return to the camp. But already on the third day of the journey, the family found themselves in a very narrow part of the canyon, it was between 15-meter rocks, where the water raged very strongly.

People were trapped, they were scared and very confused. There was no signal on the mobile phone. They tried with all their might to climb to the top, but the attempts were unsuccessful. Nothing can be seen beyond the walls of the canyon, but people clearly heard that someone was there. They screamed and called for help, but the noise of the water drowned out all sounds. They started throwing stones and sticks in that direction, but soon realized that this was not enough. And Whitson came up with an idea…

A plastic bottle which the head of the family noticed, was stuck in the stones. Taking it out, he carved the word “HELP” on the plastic case. On a piece of paper that the man found in his pocket, he wrote: “We are stuck at the waterfall. Please help.” He put the note in a bottle and threw it into the water.

To attract more attention, people began to lay out the word “SOS” from the stones. When it got dark on the street, they illuminated the inscription with a flashlight. The bottle was caught by tourists, it was floating with the flow. The alarm was immediately raised. The rescue team found the family just a couple of hours after the message in the bottle was found. That’s how the ancient way of sending a request for help saved people in our digital time!
