A couple from Brazil turned a wasteland into a tropical paradise, planting more than 2 million trees. An amazing story

Brazilian photojournalist Sebastian Salgado grew up in a tropical forest, where life was in full swing and there was a wonderful ecology.

Then Sebastian left home and returned many years later.

Upon arrival, the man did not recognize his native state of Minas Gerais, he was shocked by the state of nature.

Lush forests were cut down, and the soil turned into a lifeless desert.

Sebastian decided to somehow fix this disaster.

Then his wife Lelia Deluise Vanik Salgado proposed a bold idea – to plant the forest again.

He and his wife created an organization called Instituto Terra (Institute of the Earth).

In December 1999, the organization started planting the first seeds, and this was the beginning of a wonderful transformation.

They planted more than 300 different species of trees and brought the flora and fauna of this place back to life

The photos clearly show how nature began to recover and come back to life.

Thanks to afforestation, it was possible to stop soil erosion, which led to the restoration of water resources.

For 20 years, it was possible to restore the original appearance of a seemingly lost piece of land.

The Instituto Terra organization has shown that a person can not only destroy, but restore the environment.

After the return of the paradise place, the Earth Institute did not stop its work, but continued to develop its idea of protecting the environment and saving our planet.
