How a bear helped a lost three-year-old boy survive

This story took place in the town of Ernule in North Carolina. The boy, named Casey, was playing in the backyard with other children, but then quietly went into the woods. The grandmother tried to look for her grandson on her own for 45 minutes, but her attempts were unsuccessful.

Several rescue teams were sent to search for the boy, since the town is surrounded by dense, poorly passable forests, which made it difficult to move around the area. Rescuers used helicopters, drones, a dog service and divers to search for Casey. The child was found only on the morning of January 24. Soaking wet, he sat in a thorny bush and cried.

According to Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes, the boy was slightly scratched, very thirsty and was calling for his mother. Casey was immediately taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the child was almost unharmed. Casey claims that “he spent these two days with the bear.” It is not known whether Casey is talking about an imaginary or real animal, but, as The Guardian notes, a large number of black bears really live in the forests of North Carolina.
