“We lived in hope”: sisters separated in childhood found each other after 25 years

The sisters have been trying to find each other for many years, but were able to reunite only two decades later — thanks to the help of a stranger.

Brittany Bigley, who now lives in the USA, was separated from her younger sister Amanda in 1993 when her mother had difficulties. Amanda was taken away by her father, and Brittany was adopted by a foster family.

Amanda’s father died when she was 10, and the girl was sent to an orphanage, where she lived until she was 17. Growing up, she made many attempts to find her sister, using photos from the family archive and court documents– not knowing yet that she was looking for her.

Brittany spent hours browsing the Internet for photos of women, trying to recognize them as Amanda. She also recorded a video with her story, which she distributed on social networks. This helped: after a while, the ex-girlfriend of her already deceased father wrote to her. Brittany didn’t know this woman, but she knew a lot about her family — for example, her sister’s new name, with which she managed to find her Facebook page.

“I saw her photo and my heart started beating wildly. The same fluffy eyelashes, the same potato nose. She had a lot of makeup on, but we were very similar,” Brittany recalls.

Brittany also found a photo of Amanda’s father there, and there was no doubt left: It’s her! The woman sent a message to her sister and talked to her for the first time in 25 years of separation. And then the long-awaited meeting took place, at which no one could hold back tears. According to Brittany, she hugged her sister for a long time and still could not let her go.

The sisters admit that now their life will not be the same. They feel that the emptiness that has always been in their heart is no more. “We are best friends and we call each other all the time. I met her family, and she met mine,” says Amanda. “There’s so much to tell each other, and we’re looking forward to it.”
