A millionaire from China invested a significant portion of his wealth to buy a slaughterhouse and open a shelter for dogs.

People often associate having a lot of money with a lack of principles and moral qualities. However, in this article, we debunk that stereotype. Allow us to introduce Mr. Wang Yan, a citizen of China who resides in the mid-sized city of Geelong.

A couple of years ago, he was a well-known industrialist in the steel industry, with significant means that allowed him to lead any lifestyle he desired. However, Wang saw a different calling for himself.

The lion’s share of his capital was spent on a very noble cause: he made it his mission to rescue dogs from China’s meat trade. Many acquaintances began to consider him eccentric, a man with peculiarities, and some thought he was embarking on an impossible endeavor.

Nevertheless, he achieved his goal, transforming the place where a slaughterhouse used to operate – where animals were raised to be later consumed – into a sanctuary. Nine years ago, his beloved pet dog went missing, prompting him to search everywhere.

A person from his circle suggested checking the meat processing plant nearby, infamous for its bad reputation. Though he didn’t find his pet there, the pleading eyes of the animals profoundly affected him, to the point that he could never live his old life again.

Having abundant financial resources, he decided to purchase the farm, turning it into a shelter. So far, he has saved 2,500 dog lives. Currently, he accepts food or blankets for the animals but refuses monetary donations.
