A single father adopts five siblings to keep them together: “I’ve dedicated my entire life to underprivileged children.”

Becoming a parent is not only a biological matter; there are those who can also embrace this role through adoption, a significant gesture for children and young people who haven’t always had the best of luck but are granted a second chance at life. Deciding to take such a step, however, is not within everyone’s reach. Choosing to care for those in need is an act of great generosity, altruism, and courage.

One man who understands this well is Lamont Thomas. For about two decades, he dedicated his life to helping those in need, eventually caring for over 30 children. His story began in 2000, and it hasn’t stopped since. Recognizing the challenging situations some children faced, he decided to give them the chance they deserved by removing them from the cycle of foster homes.

For Lamont, this became a true mission, caring for around thirty children in addition to his two biological children. Despite being single for a long time and with his older children having grown, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to this noble cause. The first to be adopted were twins, and the last five were siblings.

Aged 5 to 12 months, these children found their way into his heart, inspiring him to yet another act of solidarity. Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major, and Michaela had stayed in four different homes for over a year and a half before finding light with Lamont. He was determined not to let them grow up separately, so he worked tirelessly, demanding custody of all five children before their adoption could be finalized. This way, he succeeded in giving them the same home and love they needed.

“I had to help them; they deserved to grow up together,” he declared. To fulfill such an important wish requires persistence and not giving up. Bureaucracy can be lengthy, and not all situations are the same, but Lamont resisted and did something special.
After several years and many children under his care, he officially became the father of twelve – ten adopted, including five younger siblings, and two from his previous marriage.

There should always be more people in the world with such big hearts. These are men and women who, through their commitment, manage to bring a smile that warms the heart and restores hope.
