This morning Polina suddenly felt sick and the unexpected happened

When Pavlo took his wife to the maternity hospital, he had no idea what surprise awaited him. Today morning, Polina started feeling unwell, experiencing stomach pains and backache. Without hesitation, Pavlo called for an ambulance. The doctor ordered them to hurry as Polina’s labor was about to start. Now, Pavlo stands under the windows of the maternity hospital, waiting for his wife’s call.

He has been pacing back and forth for four hours. Did the phone die, or why isn’t she calling? Finally, at around six in the evening, she called. Polina, with a tired voice, informed him that they had twins, a boy and a girl. The girl weighed two kilograms, and the boy weighed three hundred.

Pavlo was unsure about what to do with both of them. He impulsively suggested that Polina leave the girl, and they could take the boy instead. But Polina hung up the phone. Later, when he returned home, Pavlo went to see his mother, seeking advice on what to do. He couldn’t comprehend how to handle two children.

Why was his wife so calm about having twins? Shouldn’t Polina just listen to him, and they would take only one of the children? But she disconnected the call. Tomorrow he’ll talk to her seriously. Today, he will consult with his mother and listen to her.

When he arrived at his parents’ house, a long-time acquaintance of his mother was visiting. Pavlo remembered her and her twin boys who once played with him while protecting him. They were all grown up now. During the conversation, they congratulated him on becoming a new father. He informed them about the twins, and his mother showered him with kisses, expressing joy. The acquaintance, Aunt Nadia, wiped her eyes, tears flowing. It turned out that her twin boys had drowned in a river ten years ago while one tried to save the other. Since then, she and her husband divorced, unable to bear the loss. Now, she had a lot of free time and didn’t know what to do with herself.

Pavlo went home, not knowing why he had come in the first place. The next day, he stood under the maternity hospital window, asking for forgiveness from Polina. He admitted that he said something foolish. Of course, they are both their children, and he already loves them. Polina forgave him, and they welcomed their twins with the whole extended family. Pavlo also invited Aunt Nadia to live with them and help Polina raise the children, as he often worked long hours. Aunt Nadia accepted, and everyone celebrated the twins’ birthday fifteen years later. Pavlo looked at his children, proud of how smart they had become. Aunt Nadia became their first helper, living in their house and bringing joy to the family.
